Artist statement

I am a composer fascinated by sound and the endless possibilities of how sounds can combine. I explore sound with curiosity, listening closely to its details in order to bring different elements together and create new sonic landscapes. I work with instruments in both their natural and unconventional ways, using a wide range of tools, such as microtones, noise, timbre, and color to shape distinct sound palettes. Collaboration with performers is central to my practice, enabling me to explore their techniques and capabilities, imagine the sounds they can create, and translate my own musical ideas into realizable sonic experiences. Through this process, I translate my perceptions and imagination into music that invites listeners to experience sound in new ways.

My music unfolds through layered sonic and timbral materials that evolve over time, allowing subtle transformations, contrasts, and interactions to emerge organically. I am drawn to moments where textures shift cohesively or diverge, revealing new relationships between sound, gesture, and form. Rather than prescribing a fixed narrative, I approach each piece as a sonic space for exploration, where attentive listening reveals the music’s internal logic and development. I am drawn to unconventional sounds and textures because they allow me to realize the imaginary sonic worlds in my mind and to explore the full expressive potential of acoustic instruments. Microtones, inspired by my Iranian musical heritage, act as a recurring flavor in my musical language, sometimes harmonically, sometimes woven into noise and texture. I am particularly fascinated by the idea of transforming an ensemble into a single hybrid sound source, a conceptual “synthesizer” in which instruments interact and generate complex textures in real time.

My works invite listener to experience evolving textures, colors, and sonic worlds over time, noticing how layers interact; sometimes contrasting, sometimes blending cohesively. Each piece unfolds organically, revealing the development and transformation of materials and encouraging attentive listening to the movement and relationships within the sound. In this sense, I approach composition as a temporal exploration, where sound is shaped, transformed, and discovered through its unfolding in time.
